The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
Christ cared and showed pity for the many sick people he met during his public life. By the grace received in this Sacrament the sick person is strengthened in their fight against temptation; their sins, venial and mortal, are forgiven; they are given strength to bear their suffering; sometimes their illness may improve or even be cured.
This Sacrament reminds all of us of our duty to help and pray for those who are sick, and unites their suffering with the suffering of Christ.
The Sacrament can only be administered by a priest. It may be given at home, in hospital or in Church. If you know that you are going into hospital please will you, or one of the family, inform the priest, so that he can arrange for you to receive the Sacrament. If you wish, the Parish Community can be asked to pray for you and support you.
